Core HR Policies & Procedures
There are a number of core HR policies and procedures which are required when employing people. These include:
- Disciplinary procedure
- Grievance procedure

I worked with one small charity who had an ongoing issue with a member of staff who had a high sickness absence level. The Chief Executive did not feel equipped to manage the situation as there were no guidelines in place. I developed an absence management procedure which provided guidance to manage both short term frequent absences and long term sickness absence.
The outcome was that the Chief Executive felt more informed of best practice and confident of how to manage the situation with an absence management procedure in place. The procedure gave clear steps on what to do and what to consider to manage absence effectively and when dismissal on the grounds of capability may be considered and how to follow a fair procedure.
